On the opening of the Kyoto Seishu Netsuke Art Museum
Few decades have passed since I first came across netsuke.
During these years, as I knew that excellent netsuke works were being flowed out from Japan and saw Japanese craftsmen keep creating outstanding details on tiny materials, I began to think that I had to help the people of Japan preserve this wonderful, traditional Japanese art. The Kyoto Seishu Netsuke Art Museum is the fruit of my dream. The museum was opened in the autumn of 2007, by restoring the only existing samurai residence in Kyoto. Masterpieces selected from my collection are exhibited during the provided period of time in each season.
I hope you will appreciate our netsuke works as the Japanese traditional art to your heart’s content.
